Courtney Sixx ladies luncheon to benefit Brightpink.org

sixx2sixx3sixx5sixx6sixx7sixx8sixx9sixx1I admit I am a little behind on my blogging :/.   I woke up this morning with one of those feelings inside….like a renewed feeling?  You know that feeling I am talking about?  I feel inspired and free like all the negative vibes from yester years have magically dissipated.  Peaceful… a simple happy defines it best I believe.

I wanted to share a lovely afternoon I enjoyed a while back.  Courtney Sixx invited me to a ladies luncheon at her home that was benefiting Brightpink.org.  Bright Pink is on a mission…”Be Brilliant, Be Bold, Be Bright Pink!  Bright Pink is the only national non-profit organization that focuses on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women, while providing support for high-risk individuals.”

Courtney was at an intermix event in Brentwood and heard about Bright Pink and decided to find out more about the organization and become involved.  Courtney is no stranger to Cancer.  Her mother is a ovarian cancer survivor and her grandmother had breast cancer.  I had an opportunity to meet Courtney’s mother and have a lovely chat, she is a very sweet woman!  If those aren’t reasons enough to become involved with cancer prevention I don’t know what is.

I pulled through the beautiful gates in Westlake Village, and made my way to the Sixx Residence, Nikki and Courtney recently purchased the magnificent home.  I was greeted by Courtney who was doing some last-minute touches.  She had French music flowing through the speakers in the gorgeous backyard.  The table settings were impeccable and boasted of excellent taste.

Courtney throws a fabulous luncheon, h’ourderves were made by the renowned caterer AC Events.  They are the same caterers that were responsible for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Wedding spread.  Strawberry Mojitos were Courtney’s signature cocktail for the day, or champagne and other cocktails were available.

I met some amazing people on this beautiful day.  Some very amazing women who are smart, talented and inspiring.  I met the beautiful Susan Holmes McKagen, wife of Duff McKagen.  Susan is an international model who turned swimsuit designer mogul.  She is a lovely woman who makes me want to keep going after my dreams.  I also met Gretchen Rossi, she too is a super nice and beautiful woman.  She has the Gretchen Christine line, which includes, make up, clothing, handbags etc.  Talk about a go getter.  I was impressed by how down to earth everyone was and how friendly.

Now for Miss entrepreneur herself,  Courtney is the How2girl.  Check out Courtney’ s web site, www.how2girl.com.  This is a DIY guide to everything fabulous.  Courtney also has a radio show on iHeart.  She is a very busy girl, and a newlywed to Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue.  What an amazing couple they make, you can see the happiness in Courtney’s eyes.

Courtney asked her guests to bring gently used clothing, handbags, jewelry, etc. that she can auction off to benefit Be Bright Pink.  Her friends did not let down, the items that were donated were gorgeous designer pieces that any sane woman would kill to have.  Haha, but this is for such a great cause!  Through Courtney’s efforts and her friends donations she raised $12,500.  Just from a nice afternoon of fun!

I made cupcakes for the guests that were simply adorable if I don’t say so myself.  Miss Priss Cupcakes and Such is always happy to lend a hand to help out charities.  (Especially one that is Pink).

Thank you Courtney for inviting me to your lovely home, it was an honor.  I had a wonderful time seeing you again and meeting your friends!  Xo

Yamaha Corporation

I wanted to write about one of my wonderful customers, The Yamaha Corporation. Yamaha is an amazing company and all the employees I have encountered over the years are nothing but gracious. The work environment is one that people envy, I think the folks at Yamaha have a good thing going. Miss Priss Cupcakes, has been the bakery of choice for many events over the years at the Yamaha campus from monthly birthdays to company wide events.

Whenever I deliver cupcakes or cakes to Yamaha, I always ask what they are for, just out of curiosity or just call me nosey! One of the events I know about is the Halloween Party, Yamaha each year holds Halloween for the employees families and provides cupcakes and treats. I think involving the families is such a welcomed and wonderful thing to make everyone feel like they are valid to the company.

Recently Yamaha ordered cupcakes for a week-long event, they wanted to reward the employees for their kindness of giving. It was called, Yamaha’s Week of Caring. The intention of Yamaha is to give back to the local community, a pay it forward so to speak. From August 18 to the 22nd, different collections and or donations were collected. Four charities were selected, they were the Orange County Humane Society, Feed the Children, and the Second Harvest Food Bank and Pyles Elementary School in Stanton, California. For the OC Humane Society they collected dog and cat food and donated in that manner. They collected spare change each day for feed the children, and non-perishable food for Second Harvest Food Bank. I was told that their biggest accomplishment was the donation for Pyles School. Many of Pyles school children are in great need of basic supplies for their education. Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA sponsored the purchase of 75 backpacks. School supplies were purchased from Staples and inserted into each backpack. Employees had an opportunity to sponsor a backpack by providing a donation of $14.00 which covered the supplies. By the end of the week, all backpacks were sponsored by the employees. Employees found this a very convenient way of giving back. I again, think that Yamaha employees are caring, and amazing people. This year they added, “Brother, can you spare some change?” Employees brought in their spare change and filled a gold-fish bowl. The monies collected will sponsor 3-4 trucks filled with 400 boxes of food, peanut butter, soups, cereal, etc, and 400 boxes of hygiene articles, (shampoo, Kleenex,, toothpaste, etc). This year the trucks have been in Pleasant Prairie, WI, Kennesaw, GA and Cypress, CA. At the end of the week the employees were treated to Miss Priss Cupcakes, which I am so proud to be part of!

I have had the privilege of working with several people from Yamaha, Dede Bolin, Monica Popp, Marisol Castaneda, and Tricia Slevcove, all ladies are first-rate, upstanding people and employees. Thank you for always treating me with kindness!

Yamaha also supports the Counsel on Aging, a special program called Aging Angels. Donations of clothing and toiletries are collected in bins toward the end of the year and proudly donated. Yamaha also collects toys for Toys for Tots.

Another end of the year event Yamaha sponsors is a Charity Gift Basket. Departments in the facility are given a budget to purchase or create themed gift baskets. Employees can contribute from their own pockets as well. The baskets range from Yamaha gear, baskets with tablets and gift cards, family fun night, etc. Employees then purchase raffle tickets and submit their tickets to the basket items they wish to win. At the end of the week-long event, they host a drawing and provide refreshments and treats. Each basket is raffled off. The wonderful thing about this event is each basket is associated with a charity. Each charity is also put into a raffle box and they draw three charities. All the proceeds collected from the sale of the raffle tickets gets divided among the three charities that were drawn.

Yamaha also partners with Feed the Children throughout the year. This year Yamaha celebrated 20 years working with Feed the Children. That is an amazing partnership, I love to see business and community coming together!

Many Yamaha employees hold their own fundraisers throughout the year such as Jean Friday, Golf Tournaments, Raffles for Yamaha Products, and eBay auctions of Road Racer Gear.

Now… didn’t I tell you what an amazing company the Yamaha Corporation is! I had the privilege of being a guest of Yamaha this year at Super cross where I cheered on their team! I had a great time and admired all the employees and guests proudly wearing Yamaha Blue! Thank you Yamaha for all you do and for being an inspiring example of what companies and employees alike can accomplish together. BRAVO! Please leave your comments or sign up to follow my blog. Also if you know of any extraordinary companies or people who have given back, I would love to hear about it. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my little story. Have a wonderful Day!

Project Cuddle

board2IMG_0680IMG_5328IMG_5329

IMG_5330I wanted to share this amazing charity called Project Cuddle. Project Cuddle is run by founder Debbe Magnusen and a voluntary Board of Directors. For a brief time I was a board member but due to serious family issues I had to step down, however I hope that when I am able to I would like to re-join the board if they will have me. Project Cuddle is a non-profit charity that helps frightened girls and women in making safe and legal decisions instead of abandoning their unborn babies. It is truly amazing the work Debbe Magnusen does, and she is absolutely devoted to this cause. So far Project Cuddle has saved 759 babies, and has helped these girls/women either keep their babies or help them with the adoption process. Debbe works alongside amazing and devoted volunteers and a wonderful board that supports and helps make decisions for the future well-being of Project Cuddle. Debbe has 100% support of the wonderfully talented and equally handsome John Stamos who is the National Spokesperson. John is very hands on and works with Debbe every step of the way. Project Cuddle has several events each year to raise much-needed funds so innocent babies can be saved.  In February John Stamos hosts,” Dinner by the Bay,” at the Long Beach Hilton Hotel.  They have amazing auction items you can bid on, and there are usually some interesting Celebrities that are at the event from Bob Saget to Lisa Vanderpump and many other amazing people.  I have attended  three times, and it is always a fun party! Right now tickets are available for the annual “Spooktacular,” event held at a private estate, it is a fun Costume party!  Go to www.projectcuddle.org for ticket information.  Debbe is  a maverick and the Author of “Don’t Abandon Your Baby,” and “It’s Never Dull!”  Each book is filled with true adventures of girls that keep their pregnancies a secret, some of which were almost abandoned.  Debbe helped change the course of many girls and unborn babies lives.  Debbe has fostered over 30 drug-exposed babies, while raising two biological children.  (quote from Projectcuddle.org).  “In May 2009, Oprah and John surprised Debbe and Project Cuddle by being featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show.”  Project cuddle was incorporated in 1994 and has a 501(c)(3) non-profit status.  Project Cuddle is always looking for volunteers and donations.  Please check out Project Cuddle’s web site.  They have a list of ways you can help, and a wish list of items needed everyday.  Thank you for taking the time to read about this very worthy charity, Project Cuddle.

Make a Wish Foundation

I received a phone call from the Los Angeles Branch of Make a Wish Foundation. They said they wanted a donation in the form of Disney decorated cupcakes for a little boy named Christian. Of course, I would never say no, we happily whipped up the cupcakes that looked like Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck. They were taking Christian to a park to present him with the cupcakes and to tell him that his wish of going to Disney World was coming true. He was thrilled to say the least and I was happy to be part of it.

The Make-A-Wish foundation grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition in the United States and its territories, on average, every 38 minutes. The foundation believes that a wish experience can be a game changer. This one belief guides them. It inspires them to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids served. Make a wish is always looking for donors, and volunteers, YOU CAN CONTACT THEM AT WISH.ORG.

We must thank God for our children’s good health, I cannot imagine the horror of going through a life threatening illness with your baby. I pray he pulls through!

Paying it forward, Random acts of kindness….

I so love to hear stories regarding random acts of kindness! The Girl Scout in me has always believed if we could just be kind and take care of one another the world would be a better place. What acts of kindness have you witnessed or you yourself have done to make another persons life a little nicer?

At Girl Scout cookie time a few months back I challenged my friends and family on FB to buy a box of cookies and not take them home, but to leave them there for the Girl Scout to pick out a child who would love to have the box of cookies because their parents probably could not afford the luxury. So many of my friends responded and paid it forward. It made my heart smile to know that many children had a little sweetness sprinkled all over them from a kind stranger. Its a simple little thing for us but a huge deal for some little kids.

What kind of stories do you have? Please share :)
